On display September 18th - October 6thIt is with great pleasure and admiration to introduce world renowned and awarded artists Tom Munsteiner and his work in precious gemstone cutting. A selection of his work has been curated by us for your viewing for the Art Prize Exhibit on display at our store in downtown Grand Rapids. We warmly welcome you to see with your own eyes, a "Curation of Color" Featuring some of the rarest colored gemstones and master gem stone cutting works of the Munsteiner Family. About the Artist-
A "Curation of Color"- The work of Tom Munsteiner. Born in 1969, son Tom learned to cut and polish gems literally on the knee of his father and grandfather. A fifth generation gem cutter, Tom Munsteiner first learned the skills which he would need to successfully cut and polish gems into the classical faceted cuts before learning the special incisions required for the geometric cuts that his father pioneered. Tom Munsteiner has taken his skills on a path towards his own style, however, and has earned a reputation as a master gem cutter in his own right. By radically turning his back on the crystal cutting technique that was prevalent worldwide at the time, Bernd Munsteiner started to revolutionize the shaping of gemstones in the 1970s. For him, the aesthetic quality of the gemstones represented a rediscovery and it formed the basis of his worldwide success. Since 1997, his son Tom and daughter-in-law Jutta have taken over the atelier in Stipshausen near Idar-Oberstein.
